Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player claimed his initial championship for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a former number one, has experienced a difficult season, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with his coach and Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested competitive triumph over challenger Moutet.

This represents the player's maiden championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface after March of the previous year.

Success also signifies the Russian has achieved 21 championships at twenty-one different competitions.

"For the first time I have attended a event with my two daughters together, so to get a title is particularly special," said world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, comprising in the German tournament earlier this year.

His retrieving approach and frequent outbursts on court had prompted some to question if his capacity to play at the elite level was concluded.

But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to advance forward and play positively, backed up by an improved service.

The champion fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, taking four of the last five games to go ahead.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the following set before the challenger, striving for his first professional title, gained dominance to force a third set.

The opponent defended 4 early opportunities in a competitive third set before the Russian won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the title with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
